The lone cottonwood tree

On the road: filming Texas Wild

For the past several weeks we have been camping at Caprock Canyons State Park. Our campsite is located next to what we call “the lone cottonwood tree.” This tree is often the focus while we drink our early morning coffee. While sipping our coffee we watched as a pair of roadrunners courted one another while perched in the tree. A Bullock’s oriole was a common visitor as a well as a bobwhite who’s call could be heard throughout the day. At the very top of “the lone cottonwood tree” is a nesting pair of scissor-tailed flycatchers that I photographed mating. I happened to be outside with my Canon 7D Mark II 300mm f2.8 x 1.4 when I snapped photos of these two during their “moment.”
